JAIMIE VERNON has a long musical history as a live performer and recording artist with such acts as SWindleD, Moving Targetz, Swedish
Fish, The Hounds, Spare Parts and The Richmond Hillbillies [which featured members of Moving Targetz, The First Time and KiLLeR DwaRfs].
20 years after establishing Bullseye Records and a roster of
some of Canada's greatest classic rock institutions, Vernon occasionally steps out from behind his desk and in front of the microphone for a bevy of power pop and rock originals gleaned from 28 years of
songwriting. From the novelty track "I Am A TV Show" to the re-working of the David Bowie classic "Rebel Rebel", Vernon showed yet another side of his love of music on his first solo release
'Broadcasts From The Twilight Zone' back in 2003.
Three years on he has continued his love-affair with hook-filled AM Radio pop on 'Time Enough At Last' whose title track is yet another homage to all
things Rod Serling. The CD features 16 tracks loosely hinged on the concept of time as it affects everyday life – classical guitar driven "Follow You [The Clock Of The Long Now]", the Byrds-ish "Pillars Of
Time" (co-written with Cheaper Than Therapy's Ivan Judd), the new wave toting "You've Done It This Time" (a send-up of The Cars) and the hauntingly chilling gospel flavoured "Rest In Peace".
Produced
by Vernon and long-time production engineer Brian Gagnon (The Hunt, Frank Soda), the disc is a showcase for the two as musicians and introduces Vernon's daughter Danielle Benson-Vernon as piano player and
co-writer on "Give Me Your Hand". Even the bonus material clocks in: "Time" by Alan Parsons; "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" by the Korgis and "Unguarded Moment" by The
Church". And there's production demos included just for the fans.
Vernon is currently the bassist in The Maureen Leeson Band. |
